Six years after “Canzoni all’angolo,” the Salento singer-songwriter, Roman by adoption, returns to the music scene with his third album of unreleased songs, “MONDO ACIDO” (Esordisco), containing ten tracks, mostly written in the last five years.
Daily stress and the “wrong” people in our lives, you know, should be minimized as much as possible – Mariano tells of the title track. To safeguard our health, and our stomach, we should get away from them: leave and leave them behind. Certainly the world’s acidity, sometimes very corrosive, can be better fought with the weapon of (self-)irony>.
Preserving his style always poised between intimist reflections and a broader gaze (sometimes ironic, sometimes disenchanted) turned to the everyday, Luigi Mariano traces a path through family relationships(Il figlio perfetto), social (Mondo acido, Errori di grammatica, Cara routine), sentimental (Piccolo valzer in blu, Sotto sale), , as well as some individual conditions that remain strongly in tension, unless they find their own way out(Vita rasoterra, Rifiorirai e Inverno 2063).
At the end of the journey, the apparent disconnect between the album’s title and the decidedly more ironic image of the cover leads to the suggestion that the acidity of the world is, after all, quite relative: wanting it, it can even be accompanied, in our minds, not already by the threatening aggressiveness of a muriatic acid but by the tasty flavor of a yogurt. Corrosive acidity and tasty acidity, in fact, alternate in a constant ballet, within the album, trying to simulate the course of the ups and downs of life, between hardships and hopes, falls and awakenings, mistakes and rebirths, enthusiasms and dissatisfactions, departures and returns(Odissea degli elementi).
The album is symbolically dedicated to Pierre Ruiz (who passed away two years ago), Luigi’s close friend and founder of the “Esordisco” label, whose moral and material legacy has now been taken over by his wife Paola Cimino Ruiz and son Antoine.
BIO LUIGI MARIANO
Luigi Mariano is a singer-songwriter from Galatone (Le), writing songs and playing music since 1992.
He has been living off music, with his shows, since 2007. He has lived 21 years in Rome, where he often returns to play in front of a loyal and devoted audience over the years, and where he was formed artistically, inserted in the Capitoline musical environment. Here he recorded two multi-award-winning records that were highly appreciated by critics and big names in show business: 2010’s “Asincrono” and 2016’s “Canzoni all’angolo” (Esordisco/Audioglobe), both produced and arranged by Alberto Lombardi.
In June 2022 his third record, “Mondo acido,” also by Esordisco, was released, played with De Gregori’s band, produced by Alberto Lombardi and arranged by Primiano Di Biase.
Always very active in concerts, both solo acoustic and with his musicians, for the past fifteen years Mariano has regularly tackled small national tours, starting from Rome and Salento, and then reaching the central north.
He has collaborated several times, in the studio and live, with Neri Marcorè, Simone Cristicchi, Tony Bungaro. He is very close to some “historical” Roman singer-songwriters, such as Ernesto Bassignano and Edoardo De Angelis, on whose stages he has often been invited to perform and duet.
He has often been appreciated as a guest, in the studio, on RAI Radio: by Fiorello, Luca Barbarossa, Lorella Cuccarini. He has been interviewed by TG1 and Rai News 24.
In his career, he has won a dozen prestigious songwriting awards, including the 2013 Ciampi Prize, the 2011 Bindi Prize, the 2016 Lunezia Prize, and the 2010 Daolio City of Sulmona Prize.
His Italian version (studio) of Bruce Springsteen ‘s “Matamoros banks” enters in September 2010 “For you 2,” an official double CD dedicated to the Boss, produced by Ermanno Labianca for “Route 61.”
His song “Non ti chiamerò” comments on the final climactic scene of “Do it for Dad,” a comedy released in 2012.
His song“Intimacy” is performed on May 30, 2013, by Massimo Altomare at the“National Festival of Erotic Song” with the sextet of the Mirko Guerrini band (at the Politeama in Prato).
His version (recorded in a live quartet, at the Livorno theater) of Piero Ciampi‘s “Più di così no“, winner of the “Special Plaque“ 2013 Ciampi Award, enters (in April 2014) “Piero Litaliano 50 years later,” an official record-compilation produced by the Ciampi Prize and dedicated to the tormented Livorno-based singer-songwriter. He returns to the Ciampi Prize, this time as a guest, in the 2016 edition.
His piece “The Hiccup“, contained on the first record (“Asincrono”) and sung again in 2016 in Salento dialect (“U’ singhiozzu“) entered the 2016 “Pizzica la taranta” compilation CD, attached to the popular weekly “Sorrisi e Canzoni,” with thousands of copies sold.
